Is there any bad time for beach season? Negative.

Delta has doubled down on that fact by announcing a plethora of exciting new flights to not one, not two, not three, but seven stunning international beach destinations!

Some are household names, while others are still rising in the ranks. But hey, that just means fewer crowds to deal with.

Bottom line — there’s no doubt you can go wrong with any of these paradisal getaways.

Think crystal-clear waters, flashy resorts, and all the delights Mexico and the Caribbean have to offer, whether you’re visiting to indulge in endless cocktails at the swim-up bar or simply looking to escape the city grind wasting away in a beachside hammock.

No matter your preference, Delta has got you covered with their latest launch, which is slated for later this year.

Delta’s New Flights To Caribbean Islands

Who wants to go to the Caribbean?! Well, that’s probably a dumb question. Who would say no?

Delta is giving you more options as if the Caribbean wasn’t teeming with enough postcard island getaways.

According to Airline Geeks, Delta is adding 11 new routes, but not all are to some of the prettiest beaches imaginable.

No offense to Los Angeles, but Santa Monica needs a bit of a cleanup, don’t ya think?

The Caribbean, however, is brimming with white-sand hideaways from notable names such as Punta Cana, which Delta is also increasing capacity from Atlanta.

But let’s get down to the nitty-gritty — the 5 proper Caribbean destinations Delta will be serving with new flights (don’t worry; we’ll get to Mexico in a sec).

Let’s start with some Caribbean up-and-comers, such as St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which, as just announced, is breaking all-time visitor records, and Grenada, which has seen 26 straight months of continued growth.

Both these pristine, lesser-known island retreats will soon be served by Atlanta.

Now for the rest, with more notable names:

• Minneapolis to Nassau, Bahamas
• Detroit to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (check out American’s historic new flight too!)
• Atlanta to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
• Boston to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Delta’s New Routes To Mexico’s Icons

You know where this is going…

As if Cancun needed any more connections, Delta just said “hold my cerveza“.

Americans’ favorite international beach vacation spot is becoming even easier to reach with a new flight from 3 U.S. cities:

• Nashville
• Kansas City
• Indianapolis

But, here’s the kicker: the new Cancun routes will only be offered on Saturdays, so plan accordingly. Although, Detroit lucked out a bit with additional flights being added to their already existing route.

When you land, don’t forget to take the new $7 shuttle to avoid the ongoing feud between taxis and Ubers.

Scroll back up and notice I said ‘icons’ — plural. That’s right; Delta is also launching a new flight to Cabo.

Austin is the big winner for this new route with daily service to Baja’s numero uno paradise, but let’s hope the airfare doesn’t top the resort rates — yikes!

While Cabo is undoubtedly the crown jewel of Baja, and always one of Mexico’s most visited cities, you might be surprised to know Cabo has also become more of a gateway to nearby beach destinations, such as the small coastal town of Todos Santos with vibrant culture and posh stays, or La Paz, a bigger city known for epic seafood cuisine and one of Latin America’s most beautiful beaches, Balandra.

All of Delta’s new routes are slated to launch December 20, 2025.

Delta is tackling the globe yet again, adding to their already impressive portfolio where seemingly no destination is unreachable.

That being said, it’s kinda surprising to learn there are still major U.S. cities lacking connectivity to Cancun on one of Americans’ favorite airlines, but Delta is set to change that.

Additionally, there is another exciting country Delta is venturing into for the first time, and I had the pleasure of visiting last fall.

Spoiler alert: it’s one of the most culturally captivating cities I’ve ever been to, and I enjoyed it so much it tops my list as my go-to digital nomad destination if I ever build up the courage to take the full plunge.

Delta is adding more pins to their route map on 3 continents, totaling 4 new cities Americans fly to nonstop in 2025.

Melbourne: New Long-Haul Flight To ‘The Land Down Under’

When you think of Australia, it’s likely that Sydney comes to mind…as well as multiple Crocodile Dundee quotes and a strong vendetta against sting rays for taking Steve Irwin’s life.

But despite Sydney’s global recognition, travelers often find Melbourne to be Australia’s most surprising delight as far as the country’s major cities go.

Home to beautiful beaches, such as popular St. Kilda and one-of-a-kind Brighton Beach, lined with colorful beach huts (a.k.a. “bathing boxes), this diverse cultural hub is great for those seeking outdoor adventures or urban experiences, especially if you’re a foodie or coffee lover.

Delta is making Melbourne easier to reach with a new flight launching from Los Angeles (LAX) December 2025, which is actually summer in Australia.

Cancun: Cheaper Margaritas And Caribbean Bliss

If any state can sling margaritas the right way, it’s Texas. And since all my exes live there, I’ve poured many, which is all the more reason to leave the Lone Star State if you’ve had to displeasure to know them.

Exes aside, it’s fair to say Austin has become Dallas 2.0, losing much of its notorious ‘weird’ vibe appeal in place of techy startup ventures, a packed cityscape of new high-rises, and more chains replacing independent shops and eateries.

If you’re tired of sharing what used to be empty Greenbelt trails, seeing food truck parks turned into new apartment complexes, and being stuck in traffic thanks to Californians moving here, there’s no better relaxing escape than Cancun’s vivid blue waters and luxe resorts.

Delta is launching new daily service from Austin (AUS) to Cancun December 20, 2025 through an undetermined date in April 2026.

In case you missed it: Delta is also launching a new flight this spring to Punta Cana, one of the prettiest resort towns in the Caribbean.

Adventure Awaits In 2 African Cities

Africa isn’t on everyone’s Bingo card for 2025, but don’t let mainstream news dictate where you go, spoiling your sense of adventure.

Yes, Africa is home to some very poor and downright dangerous regions, but just like Mexico, a favorite for Americans to vacation, negative headlines shouldn’t be a blanket statement for anywhere.

Plus, even destinations like Cape Town have managed to make a comeback after being considered super sketchy in recent years.

But we’re not here to sell you on Cape Town or anywhere else, but what I can attest to personally is Marrakesh, Morrocco’s bustling capital city is the perfect gateway into Africa.

Largely English-speaking, friendly, welcoming, and providing a sensory overload of sights of timeless mosques and palaces, sounds of call to prayer and snake charmers, and various aromas through the maze of souks encapsulate a trip you’ll never forget.

While there are numerous direct flights to Marrakesh, the reality is we prefer to fly U.S.-based airlines.

Delta is launching its first-ever route to Marrakesh from Atlanta (ATL) October 25, 2025.

Additionally, Delta is adding a new seasonal service to Accra, Ghana, one of Africa’s safest destinations and an excellent place to book a safari or simply enjoy Ghana’s famed hospitality, whether it be exploring the sites of Accra or visiting small villages off-the-beaten-path.

Delta already flies to Accra from New York, but Atlanta is clearly the big winner of the airline’s latest additions, with new flights to both Marrakesh and Accra (ACC).

The latter is slated for launch December 1, 2025.

Delta Airlines CEO, Ed Bastian, has suggested air fares will increase by up to 30% in the summer months. With rising fuel costs, rising demand, and the end of the COVID-19 pandemic—travelers are witnessing rising air fares in the United States and the rest of the world. 

When speaking to investors, Ed Bastian said: “We expect pricing this summer to be up probably somewhere between 25% and 30% on average,”

He added: “We’ve never seen anything of that scale.”

According to statistics, airfares in the United States are up by 25% in the previous 12 months. In fact, airfares jumped by a staggering 16.8% in April alone. 

So what should travelers do? Read on to find out!

What Has Delta Airlines Said and How Will It Affect Travelers? 

Delta Airlines has predicted its revenue in Q2 will be back to pre-pandemic levels for the first time, even with fewer flights than in 2019. They expect their revenue to be up 8% more than previously expected. 

So this is good news for the airlines, right? 

Sure.

But it’s not great for travelers like me and you. 

The rising fuel costs are due to soar up to 22% above 2018 levels on a per-seat basis, which is more severe than the mid-April forecast of 17%. In addition, many airlines are contending with staff shortages that sometimes require higher worker pay.

As a result, Delta Airlines are raising flight prices to make up for the increased fuel costs.

Although thousands of travelers are complaining about the rising airfares on social media, many airline executives are reluctant to say it’ll deter travelers from traveling this year.

Speaking at the same event, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, said: “It you’re worried about pricing destroying demand, you are betting against history,” 

He suggests air fares are only back to where they were in 2014 after adjusting for inflation. 

Helane Becker, Senior Research Analyst at Cowen, told Bloomberg TV on Monday: “We’re worried about September and what happens in the fall. Avgas prices are going up and up. Airlines are finding labor costs are going up, fuel costs are going up, airport costs are going up. They are facing huge inflationary pressures and need to raise ticket prices and at some point, the consumer is going to say ‘okay, we’ve done our travel, and we’re done, we cannot (afford) to fly again,”

What About International Travel? 

For the most part, the increased domestic demand in the United States is driving the rise in flight prices. Although some Americans are traveling overseas after the COVID-19 pandemic—numbers are still down on pre-pandemic levels.

Therefore, international airfares purchased in the United States remain down on pre-pandemic levels. 

So travelers can still find excellent deals of flights to Europe, South America, and even the Caribbean or Mexico.

Americans looking to travel within Europe will face the same issues with flight prices. According to Ryanair CEO, Michael O’Leary, flight prices in Europe may increase to a “high single-digit per cent.”

He said: “It seems to us that there will be higher prices into that peak summer period because there’s so much demand for the beaches of Europe and those price rises going to continue,”

The Fast Travel Rebound: How This Affects Travelers

Travel has returned back to pre-pandemic levels within North America in 2022, which is faster than many economists and travel experts expected.

In turn, this has enabled airlines to raise prices for travelers. 

However, despite the sharp rebound, travelers are witnessing enormous waiting times and issues at airports due to airlines failing to prepare for the massive travel rebound. 

There is also a massive shortage in pilots in the United States. Delta Airlines recently trimmed its summer schedule by up to 3% to enable more time between flights and a smoother service in light of the recent issues. 

Final Thoughts 

Don’t let the rise in prices put you off traveling in 2022. There are still excellent flight deals out there—especially to Mexico and Europe. 

Yes, flights are skyrocketing in the United States. But with the world finally reopening, now might be the best time to travel overseas.

Mexico is officially America’s number 1 overseas vacation destination.

More Americans visit Mexico than anywhere else in the world.

Cancun is the country’s holiday hotspot, and there’s no better time to visit Mexico than during the winter months.

But Mexico doesn’t begin and end in Cancun!

Now Delta Airlines is launching 2 new nonstop flights this winter, meaning exploring a little further afield will be easier than ever for many travelers.

Tulum and Mazatlan will both get a new Delta flight route. Here’s what you need to know:

Detroit To Tulum

If you live in Detroit, then you’ll have more options for flying to Mexico this winter.

Starting on January 11, 2025, Delta will launch its first flight from Detroit to Tulum.

This will be a once-weekly flight that will be operating on a Saturday.

To check out the prices I looked at a weeklong visit from January 18 to January 25 with Google flights.

A round trip is currently costing $519 for an economy class flight in the main cabin – which is the cheapest way to fly!

Delta offers 3 different flight classes on this route. These are First Class, Delta Comfort Plus, and Main Cabin.

To upgrade your flight and travel in Delta Comfort Plus Class will cost $861. Going all out for a First Class ticket will cost $1,394.

Delta first-class passengers enjoy a chef-curated meal experience and complimentary premium beer, wine, and spirits.

But perhaps the biggest draw for most passengers is the bigger seats, extra legroom, and more room to relax.

And if you’re not a fan of long flights, you’ll be pleased to know the flight time is only 4 hours.

Tulum is a beautiful resort destination on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. It’s famous for its ancient Mayan ruins, stunningly beautiful beaches and beach clubs, and overall laid back vibe.

I visited both Tulum and Cancun in the Spring (my first trip to Mexico) and found that Tulum was a more beautiful, cultural, and relaxing experience, so this new route definitely gets thumbs up from me!

Los Angeles To Mazatlán

A little sooner than the new Detroit flight (and just in time for the holidays!) Delta is launching another new flight from Los Angeles to Mazatlán on December 21.

This will also be a once weekly flight, and will also operate on a Saturday. Perfect for 7 days in the sun!

I’ve used Google Flights to look at the prices for a week in Mazatlán using this new route, but I haven’t looked at flights straight after the route launches as I did for Detroit-Tulum because traveling during the holiday period always dramatically increases flight prices.

Instead I looked for a week in January: January 18 to January 25, so that the comparison between the 2 flights and their prices is identical.

The 3 flight classes on the route are the same as those I outlined above: First Class, Delta Comfort Plus, and Main Cabin.

A round trip in economy class costs $357. In First Class, the price jumps to $1,037.

This is also an appealingly short flight time, with the journey taking just 2 hours 33 minutes.         

Mazatlan is a lesser-known spot than Cancun or Tulum, but it is a beautiful city and well worth visiting.

It is a colonial city with a rich heritage and beautiful architecture.

But it also boasts golden sand beaches that are perfect for those looking to enjoy a fly-and-flop break.

Delta or AeroMexico?

It’s worth noting that if you go ahead and book one of these flights for your next vacation, your tickets will say Delta but you may find yourself on an AeroMexico flight.

The return leg of both of my sample flights were operated by Delta via AeroMexico.

This is because Delta and Aeromexico have a Joint Cooperation Agreement, which means that Delta can offer “more connectivity and scheduling options that benefit customers from both airlines.”

In real terms, away from the blurb, this just means that you may find yourself on a different plane for either leg of your journey, but the quality of the service you receive should be exactly the same!
