Yep, in case you weren’t aware, Seville (and much of Southern Spain) remained under Arab control for much of the medieval period.

A short walk from the cathedral, the Real Alcázar is yet another impressive Arab-constructed fortress, and an imperial complex with several interconnected palaces, lush gardens, and arcaded courtyards, and let’s not forget Plaza de España:

In fact, visiting Andalusia in the fall is preferred over summer. If it’s still pushing 86 degrees and higher right now, you can probably guess how unbelievably hot it gets in July and August.

On top of that, there are far fewer tourists out now that the high season’s finished. It’s not like Seville turns into a ghost town—far from that, after all, it’s still one of Spain’s most sought-after spots—but it definitely feels calmer and peaceful to stroll.

Last but not least, hotel prices typically see a noticeable decrease over the fall: a fully-equipped private apartment in the centrally-located Triana will set you back by $165-a-night (for 2 adults) this November.

How To Get Here

Unfortunately, there are no ferries traveling to Easton (hmm, did I just think of my next business idea?)💡.

Though there is the nearby historic Oxford–Bellevue Ferry, it’s still a bit out of the way to justify hopping aboard.

So, unless you happen to have a buddy with a boat, you’ll have to skip the vibrant marina and drive in.

The good news is this side of Maryland makes for an excellent road trip, albeit a brief one from nearby airports.

The best way to arrive is by flying into Baltimore (BWI) or even another airport, few travelers know about, since Breeze Airways recently began operating here — Salisbury Regional Airport (SBY).

Salisbury serves Orlando via Breeze and Charlotte and Philadelphia via American Airlines. Otherwise, Baltimore’s busy airport is the top option where you can easily rent a car and make your way through scenic bayside roadways to Easton.

Both SBY and BWI are approximately an hour away.

With the leaves turning a vibrant amber, the girlies bringing their hand-knit sweaters out, and pumpkin spice lattes back on the menu, it could only mean one thing:

Now, if you’ve come to Portugal for the Old World charm, you can’t miss Livraria Lello. This bookshop was made popular through its association with Harry Potter.

Legend has it that J. K. Rowling got inspired by its Neo-Gothic architecture, ornate wooden carvings, and curving staircase when describing Hogwarts.

Fall Starts Early In Bemidji, Minnesota

Bemidji said goodbye to summer already while much of the nation is in the awkward phase of not knowing if it’s the tail-end of summer or the beginning of fall.

Lake Bemidji State Park not only exudes quintessential fall charm with its natural curtain of autumnal hues, but it’s also a year-round getaway to enjoy the outdoors.

Yep, even in the throes of winter, this lush state park offers those willing to brave the winter chills with groomed cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, and cozy, heated cabins when warm, velvety cups of PSLs won’t quite do the trick.

Fall, though, sees all-but-empty trailheads, mirror-still water, and the same cabins (but you may not need the heater), though there are ample campsites available too, with free wifi so you can upload your epic pics right away.

Hilton recommends the following activities during the fall:

• Rent a bike and ride the shores
• Go wildlife spotting (be aware of black bears!)
• Paddle the calm lake in a kayak or canoe
• Fish for walleye and muskellunge

But perhaps the best place to fuel back up after a fun-filled day spent outdoors is Tutto Bene, serving made-from-scratch Italian cuisine and an impressive selection of wine.

Unspoiled Paradise A Short Boat Ride Away From Cancun

Lying a mere 13 miles across from Cancun, this small island, about half a mile across and five miles long, may be a stone’s throw away from the busiest resort dump in the Western Hemisphere, but you’d be surprised by how far-removed it feels.

As the Cancun Sun put it, Isla Mujeres is the ‘ultimate September escape just minutes from (Cancun’s) Hotel Zone’, and that’s a party due to the higher degree of exclusivity you get here.

Take the room availability, for instance: Isla Mujeres is a tiny landmass, and there’s only so many luxury all-inclusive resorts you can fit within it. According to Booking.com, there are only 46 hotels listed on the island (excluding guesthouses and B&Bs) as of September 2025.

For comparison purposes, Cancun has an additional 100 hotel listings.

How Much Do Hotels Cost In Isla Mujeres?

When you narrow it down to 4-star hotels, and then you zoom in further on the best-rated at the cheapest price, the top property on Booking is Casa Alkimia Town, an elegant boutique hotel with a rustic touch, only a few steps away from the trendy Playa Norte.

It has an exceptional average rate of 9.9 out of 10, based on 100 reviews (that’s the closest you get to universal acclaim, really), and believe it or not, it isn’t even that expensive.

If you think a private room with a balcony overlooking a mini jungle of palm trees, and the teal-colored Caribbean in the distance, will set you back $370–$400 per night, just know fall getaway deals may have increased in prices across the board, but Casa Alkimia is definitely an exception to the rule:

Where To Escape The Crowds In Isla Mujeres

Fewer hotels don’t necessarily translate into no crowds, and that’s certainly true for a number of Isla Mujeres in certain beaches, and at certain times of the day.

That being said, there’s truly only one beach in all of the island that bears the brunt of the Mexican Caribbean’s mass tourism, and that’s Playa Norte: as it is a short walk from the ferry terminal, it is where most Cancun day-trippers head for the day.

We couldn’t really blame them, as this beach is indeed gorgeous, with its powdered-sugar white sands and crystal-clear seas, known to be largely free of sargassum throughout the year, but Isla Mujeres’ charm lies in its undeveloped coast.

Playa Norte is already pretty ‘chill’ by Cancun standards, but if it’s unspoiled nature you’re looking for, Playa Indios is one of the least crowded beaches.

Located on the West coast, the coastal stretch that directly faces Cancun offers shallow, crystalline seas and a palm-shaded shoreline.

Even more offbeat, Playa Paraíso is perfect for sunbathing away from the overpriced beach bars, and just south of the world-famous Playa Norte, Playa Sol boasts a more intimate setting, warm waters, and equally beautiful, unruffled sands.

For those staying close to Centro, Playa Mujeres’ equivalent to a ‘main settlement’ or capital, Playa Centro is also an option. It has recently renewed its Blue Flag status for the 2025–2026 season, and it’s outstandingly clean and well-managed.

Last But Not Least… Limited Sargassum

Sargassum is a curse afflicting Mexican Caribbean-bound travelers for most of the year, and let’s face it, even when its levels go down, it’s never guaranteed it will go away completely.

Though it usually tapers in the fall, residue patches of the persistent, foul-smelling seaweed continue washing ashore on the mainland, but rarely ever on Isla Mujeres, especially along its North and West coast.

This means beaches like Norte and Centro, two of the most sought-after, see very little sargassum as the island’s surfboard shape helps protect its West-facing side from the algae.

After all, sargassum is dragged westward, and Cancun is the Westernmost point it can go around these ends.

We all know “Petco is where the pets go”, but what about Chetco?

Every era makes a comeback in one form or another. I mean, have you seen all the mullets lately?

While business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back haircuts probably should’ve stayed where they came from, can we all agree that despite “chili bowls” and mullets, the ’90s were the best decade?

Any time a ’90s movie comes on, chances are we’ll stop endlessly scrolling to feel a sense of nostalgia, and one of those films is Mystic Pizza, a Julia Roberts classic.

Here at Travel Off Path, there’s nothing we love more than making use of our passports. Letting our most prized possession collect dust in any season just isn’t acceptable in our eyes.

All of us here have exciting trips coming up, but even so, we’re a little envious of South Floridians who get to take advantage of these new flights, especially with JetBlue’s celebratory $113 promotional fares that surely won’t last long.

3 New Flights To Caribbean Islands

We’ve all seen it 👆— the iconic photos of planes landing in what seems like arm’s reach over vibrant St. Maarten shores.

JetBlue already flies to St. Maarten, but not from Fort Lauderdale (FLL), the airport set to welcome all 7 of the airline’s new flights, according to their latest announcement.

First up is St. Maarten, one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world. This Dutch territory is renowned as one of the Caribbean’s most postcard-worthy destinations for an epic beach vacation, boasting pristine shores and lagoons.

Falling slightly behind in the fastest-growing department is another Dutch Caribbean paradise — the gorgeous island of Aruba.

Beyond funny accents, you’ll find gleaming white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and world-class resorts, plus the opportunity to snap selfies with flamingos.

JetBlue will launch a new flight here too, in addition to the ritzy resort-laden island, Grand Cayman, the largest and most sought-after of the Cayman Islands.

Inaugural flights to St. Maarten, Aruba, and Grand Cayman are all slated for take-off December 4, 2025.

2 New Flights To Vibrant Colombian Cities

If you want to mix more rich culture with your dreamy beach days, Colombia is just the place.

While travelers have been flocking to Medellin smack dab in the middle of the country, don’t let this inland haven of expats and nomads deter you from exploring Colombia’s vibrant coast, especially as cheaply as they are to visit.

First up is Cartagena, Colombia’s most renowned coastal city on the Caribbean side. Modern meets old-school with beautiful beaches (including nearby towns) and UNESCO-protected streets to explore, where grabbing a coffee is a must from one of many cafes lining the cobbled maze of roadways.

Second is Cali. This inland city can easily be considered Medellin 2.0 for its affordability and mild year-round climate, though it’s more steeply ingrained in culture, being known as the country’s “Salsa Capital”.

JetBlue’s new flight to Cali has yet to officially be scheduled, as there are some bureaucratic hurdles to clear before serving this city for the first time ever, but the route to Cartagena will also launch on December 4, 2025.

2 New Flights To Astounding Central American Destinations

Costa Rica has seen a mixed bag of reviews with tourism numbers dropping, which can certainly be attributed to numerous safety concerns reported over the last 6 months or so, including a US Embassy-issued security alert regarding the country’s main airport in San Jose.

Well, we don’t know if that deterred JetBlue from flying here, but it’s not stopping them from flying to Costa Rica’s alternative airport, Liberia (Guanacaste), which is is the more luxurious side of the country.

Viewed as the easiest gateway to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, you’ll find a plethora of luxe resorts, picturesque beach towns, and lush nature to wander with an array of wildlife sightings.

On the flip side of luxury is Honduras, a country largely overlooked (and somewhat undeveloped) for tourism, yet those who visit actually compare it as a more affordable, up-and-coming “Costa Rica” given its cheap prices across the board and seemingly untouched nature and magnetizing culture.

I, for one, had the chance to visit last year and particularly fell in love with the town of Copan Ruinas, home to immaculately preserved Mayan ruins and an easy bus ride from San Pedro Sula, where JetBlue will also soon fly from Fort Lauderdale.

New routes to the latter and Liberia are set to launch December 4, 2025 as well.

Some people live for summer, and others can’t wait for it to end. If you’re in the second group, you’ve been eyeing your flannel shirts and waiting for pumpkin spice to drop. Guess what? Your time is now!🍂

Let’s be clear: Virginia’s fall color show is a national treasure. The state is home to the legendary Shenandoah National Park and a huge stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway, two of the most iconic foliage destinations in the entire country.

In mid-to-late October, the mountains explode into a breathtaking panorama of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows. Unlike some other destinations where you have to hike for miles to get a good view, Virginia makes it incredibly easy to find those jaw-dropping vistas. It’s a top-tier foliage experience that still feels like an insider’s secret compared to the more crowded spots up north.

2. Wineries and Breweries Galore 🍷

Forget pumpkin patches; Virginia’s fall activities are on another level. The state has a massive and surprisingly trendy wine scene, with hundreds of beautiful vineyards offering tastings with incredible mountain backdrops. The Monticello Wine Trail near Charlottesville is a must-do.

More of a beer person? Virginia has you covered. The craft beer scene is booming, especially along the Brew Ridge Trail, a scenic route that connects a half-dozen amazing breweries at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s the perfect way to spend a crisp fall afternoon.

3. Home to America’s Favorite Fall Road Trip

While some states have scenic trains, Virginia has the undisputed king of fall drives: Skyline Drive. This 105-mile road runs the entire length of Shenandoah National Park, winding along the crest of the mountains.

It’s a bucket-list experience, with 75 overlooks offering stunning views of the colorful valley below. You can spend a whole day cruising, pulling over for photos, and taking short, easy hikes to spectacular viewpoints. For an easy hike with a huge payoff, check out the Stony Man trail—it’s a gentle 1.6-mile loop that leads to one of the most incredible vistas in the park.

This is the best part. Virginia offers a premium, New England-style fall experience for a fraction of the cost. Because it flies under the radar for many leaf-peepers, the prices for hotels and Airbnbs haven’t skyrocketed.

If you’re passport has a pet dust bunny, you know what time it is…

While Cancun is always an option, it’s certainly not the best for cultural immersion with over-the-top curated experiences when there are way better places south of the border to gain a sense of real Mexico.

And guess what? The same can be said for Paris unless you just really love gawking at drab steel beams.

But let’s be real — France has so much more to offer, especially along the dreamy Côte d’Azur, which we will Americanize from this point forward to keep me from continually copy-and-pasting words I can’t spell…

There’s arguably no better time to visit the French Riviera in the fall after the summer crowds dissipate. With so many paradisal locales lining the coast, the question is which one should you choose?

Well, if you’re like me and the rest of us at Travel Off Path who love to form our own opinions by visiting ourselves rather than listening to the nonsense of talking heads, there’s one misunderstood city I have in mind for you still oozing summer vibes well into the autumn season.

Marseille: This Gritty City Is More Inviting Than You Think

There’s no doubt about it — Marseille is rough around the edges. But hey, so are cinnamon rolls. Once you get into the center, you don’t think about the edges anymore, do ya?

The same goes for Marseille.

I had the pleasure of visiting Marseille last fall. Yes, it’s gritty, edgy, and raw in certain pockets, but the city is used to tourists and largely remains unaffected in terms of crime.

From personal experience, seeing a handful of unsightly hoodie-wearing teens in the dark shadows of parks and alleys at night probably isn’t where you’d want to hang out anyway, so why ruin what’s otherwise an amazing city to visit?

Will you see graffiti-lined streets and pockets of questionable characters out late at night? Likely.

Will you also have some of the best food and wine France has to offer? Even more likely.

Will you be able to enjoy gorgeous golden beaches, secret islands, and the world’s coolest neighborhood? No doubt.

All these experiences were stamped in my mind from my last fall trip, instantly making Marseille one of my truly favorite European cities to visit.

But if I don’t hold enough clout, no hard feelings. However, it was where famed globetrotter Anthony Bourdain said he envisioned retiring before he sadly took his life, so how bad could this often misportrayed city really be?

I, along with other travel experts, promise you it’s a delight to visit as long as you temper expectations.

Don’t Be Afraid To Wander The City’s 111 Districts

Paris doesn’t qualify for a budget destination, and not all aspects of Marseille do either. The truth is that $5 goes a long way on the Metro, which also includes ferry rides away from the city grind, making it a public transit option.

Overall, Marseille has a whopping 111 distinct districts to explore, including the world’s ‘coolest neighborhood‘.

Athens must be ticked off because what would normally be eyesores of graffiti-lined streets are somehow more charming in photo-worthy Notre-Dame-du-Mont, a must for art, food, and buzzing bars extending into open plazas.

That’s a testament to the community of Marseille, who have wrangled their crime-ridden reputation and turned what some might view as off-putting areas into vibrant gathering places.

Marseille is a lot more inviting than you might think. No exaggeration — there are few cities I’ve enjoyed exploring more on foot.

Every turn was a new surprise, whether it was a quirky café, a staggering cathedral, savory seafood, or a hidden cove perfect for a relaxing beach day.

The only time I felt slightly unsafe was at my Airbnb, actually. The electricity went out, forcing all occupants to navigate a dark stairwell at all hours.

Other than that, you can put the safety concerns to bed and enjoy what’s truly a captivating city with cuisine I enjoyed even more than Paris — Bouillabaisse, pizza at Papa Fredo, and wine quite literally anywhere, are all musts.

Who Said Summer Vibes Have To End?

Marseille consistently remains in the 70s until November, allowing you to leave your chilly weather behind and enjoy the plentiful beach days ahead.

The city boasts beautiful shores, but the further outside the city limits you go, the more pristine it gets.

Expect to find hidden coves and islands you’ve never heard of before, away from the always-buzzing Old Town, one of the prettiest urban areas.

Plage de la Pointe Rouge is a good middle ground — not too far away from the city, and yet not too close to feel like you’re another face in the crowd.

Since the weather is so splendid in the coming months, you’ll likely notice a hilltop cathedral overpowering the cityscape — that’s Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, and it’s worth every step it takes to reach.
