20+ Greek islands in, I have this personal belief that you know it’s about to be one of the good ones when it either doesn’t have an airport, or the airport looks like your average Flixbus station.

That’s when you know you’ve struck gold in Greece, my friends—and when there’s no bloody vegan-friendly menus, but hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

Thassos does not have an airport, but it is a short 1h15 ferry crossing from Kavala, serviced by Kavala International Airport (KVA), which hosts flights from select EU hubs in summer, and of course, the major hub over in Thessaloniki is a 4-hour drive + ferry away.

Not exactly convenient, but that’s precisely the fact that it is hard(er)-to-reach that keeps it lowkey and authentic, and boy, does this feel like proper Greece.

If you’re hoping to find your local BVLGARI boutique like you would in Oia, or the exclusive, invite-only white parties of Mykonos, you might be in for a major shock.

This Is What Authentic Greece Feels Like

Your point of entry into Thassos is Limenas, the main port town, and probably where you want to stay for convenience—you can easily hit up all of the main sights on the island from here—and the wider choice of restaurants and hotels.

On that note, the gorgeous A for Art Hotel in Limenas, with warm-wooded, carpeted rooms that just exude Old World charm, is only a few minutes from the port and has room rates starting from as cheap as $70 this season.

Limenas itself is your typical Greek port, with a busy waterfront dotted with bobbing boats and backed by a plethora of tavernas, and laid-back beaches you can get to on foot, like Tarsanas. This one offers clear water and mountain views without ever leaving Limenas.

The true charm of the island, however, lies in its verdant, mostly rural hinterland.

A mere 8-minute walk inland from Limenas itself, the Ancient Agora is the island’s main archaeological site, featuring the ruins of an ancient marketplace, semi-preserved temples, and an impressive civic center that tells tales of a wealthy, intellectually thriving classical-era Thassos.

From now on, we strongly suggest you rent a car—which, by the way, will only set you back by around $22–$38 per day for a small economy vehicle.

Thassos is a much-more verdant island compared to its Greek counterparts. If you more commonly associate Greece with Santorini’s barren, volcanic landscapes, you’ll be surprised by how densely forested, fertile, and lush this North Aegean island is.

Tucked away in the midst of the greenery, we have the star of the show, and probably the postcard picture you’ve been dreaming of:

Theologos, easily one of the most charming mountain villages, is known for its centuries-old stone houses, old Ottoman mansions, and family-run tavernas where you can get properly traditional goat without any of the over-styled, Amalfi-imported “primi/secondi piatti” theatrics.

Menus don’t have pictures, the meat was probably slaughtered that very day, and good luck trying to customize your order because you’re “not really a fan of thyme.” I hope the back of your head’s tough enough to survive γιαγιά’s wooden spoon.

Whatever you do, make sure you swing by Taverna Avgoustos and get their fresh-roasted goat.

Just as beautiful, and even more remote, Panagia bestrides a hillside, with cobbled pathways and humble Macedonian-style houses clustered around natural springs and shaded squares. You might want to brush up on your Duolingo Greek for this one, though.

Panagia is also the entry point for hikers braving Mount Ypsario’s hillside. This is the highest mountain on the island, with well-marked paths taking you through pine forests with panoramic Aegean views, and the sunset at the top is truly hard to beat.

For those who don’t exactly fancy a long trek, you can drive up instead to the Archangel Michael Monastery, perched on a coastal hill overlooking the Aegean. It has Byzantine-era frescoes and still-functional monastic buildings that have lost none of their timeless charm.

You see? You don’t need to be jetting all over the world to chase your Eat, Pray, Love aspirations. You can do it all right here on Thassos Island.

Most Beautiful (& Uncrowded) Islands In Greece?

Ahhh, Thassos beaches… none of Thira’s or the Athenian Riviera’s sharp shingles that will slice your sole at the first wrong slip, or fenced-off zones exclusive to Instagrammers in flying dressers or those polo-shirt gits willing to spend thousands of dollars in a daybed package they’ll slap on once.

Golden Beach is the jewel on the island: a long, honey-colored sandy strip backed by green mountains, and that delicious grilled fish served at the absolutely no-frills Thalassa Taverna, right near the water? Och, heaven.

There are plenty more beautiful shallow-water spots to try on Thassos, like Paradise Beach, yet another long stretch of golden sand, and Giola, a natural rock pool carved into the coastline locals have nicknamed the “Tears of Aphrodite,” but if you want to see something truly unique, Marble Beach is where you should be headed:

Perhaps the most distinctive beach on Thassos, it is paved with the island’s iconic white-marble, in pebble form, of the same kind they used to build all those impressive Greek temples and monuments all those millennia ago.

How Safe Is Greece Right Now?

The best part? There’s no pickpockets, imported lackeys, or aggressive vendors to turn your hard-earned, peaceful holiday into a living hell.

I’m not saying go ahead and leave items unattended as you jump in that crystal-clear water, but if you do do, chances are there’ll still be right there where you left them when you come back.

Remember we told you 2026 might be the last year you get to experience Thassos at its most untouched self? Well, we have news to give you, and whether they sit on the “good” or “bad” side of the scale, it’s entirely up to you.

Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday, and with Thassos added to their portfolio for 2027, you can expect this typically pristine, generally uncrowded Greek island to slowly start resembling other parts of mainland-style, mass-market Greece.

Is Kefalonia The Best Island In Greece For Beaches?

Located on the Ionian side of Greece—the side that faces Italy—Kefalonia is an island paradise best known for its indented coastline, interspersed with cliff-backed bays, limestone sea walls, and short strips of mixed white pebble and sand.

Fteri Beach, one of these hard-to-access, small pebbly coves backed by towering cliffs, was just ranked the second best beach in the world by the experts behind World’s 50 Best Beaches, closely behind Sardinia‘s Cala Goloritzé.

In Greece, it beats out other heavyweights like Voutoumi, Porto Katsiki, and even Crete’s iconic Elafonissi Beach, which chart at Nos. 3, 5, and 15, respectively.

At this point, you’re probably wondering why this beach is so special. Well, other than the powdery white sands and crystalline seas, of course, its challenging access is key to understanding its appeal with beachgoers.

How To Get To Fteri Beach On Kefalonia

You can only get there hiking down from the small village of Zola, on the northwest coast, and that takes about 40 minutes, or by taking a water taxi. If you’re walking, sneakers are highly recommended as the route can get a little rough in parts, and you’ll need good shoes to walk across Fteri’s white pebbles.

Naturally, taking the taxi is a lot faster and more convenient: a 5–10 minute glide from the harbor to the beach.

There’s a Fteri Water Taxi running from Zola Harbor in the high season, offering pickups and drop-offs at Fteri, and even other nearby beaches like Amidi and Kamari.

According to travelers who have been, the best time to visit is the morning, before the taxi boats arrive, as the beach is usually nearly empty.

Once the taxis are operational, they start dropping people off every 30 minutes (or more frequently, even).

As for the water, they have that pool-like translucent shade closer to shore, that gradually turns that gorgeous gatorade-blue so typical of the Ionian Sea.

Oh, a piece of advice? Kefalonia is a proper wild beach, with no amenities like on many of Kefalonia’s mainline beaches, so make sure you bring your own sunscreen, bottle of water, snacks, and beach attire, as you won’t be able to purchase them from a kiosk.

Kefalonia Is Full Of Turquoise-Water Bays

Fteri Beach may be the star of the show today, but it’s far from being Kefalonia’s only paradisiacal cove with surreal waters.

In fact, the most popular beach on the island is Myrtos, similar to Fteri in many ways, except it’s far easier to drive to with a car. White pebbles, neon-blue seas, and imposing cliffs.

Petani is the family-friendly, amenity-packed alternative: you park at the top of the cliffs, then you walk the short way down. It has sunbeds and umbrellas to rent, and a couple of beach bars and restaurants nearby.

You’ve probably heard of Crete’s pinkish Elafonissi Beach, but did you have any idea Kefalonia hosts its very own red-sanded strip?

With soft, clay-like sands, Xi Beach straddles the southern coast of the island, in the Paliki peninsula, and it has a full setup of sunbed rentals, seasonal cafés, and water sports. It gets busier than most, sure, but the deep-ocher sands and the azure waters are unique in Greece.

Where To Stay On Kefalonia

If you’re looking for a place to stay, Argostoli, the quaint Kefalonian capital nestled on a coastal hill overlooking the Ionian Sea, is probably your top pick.

A lively harbor town, it’s filled with shops, restaurants, and even the nightlife isn’t all that bad, thanks to a bar-lined central promenade, easy to walk to at night for after-dinner drinks.

For a quieter island experience and easier access to Paliki peninsula beaches (like Xi), Lixouri is a popular alternative.

Kefalonia’s second-largest settlement, it’s still big and well-equipped for tourism, yet serene enough to feel worlds away from the main hub.

A short ferry hop away from the gorgeous Melissani Cave, one of Kefalonia’s top natural wonders, Sami is a great base for exploring, and of course, if your primary goal is to be a short 5 min water taxi ride from the dreamy Fteri Beach, Zola is where you should crash for the long weekend.

Santiago de Compostela — I need to pause and brag I typed that right on my first try — is one of Europe’s most underrated getaways, but one that’s been slowly making a name for itself as overtourism plagued Spain’s household names.

This city is brimming with culture and epic eats and makes for a perfect springboard into Combarro since Americans can fly nonstop here via United beginning May 2026.

It’s true, you don’t have to fly to the opposite side of Spain only to circle back, so really it’s not as off-path as it seems.

According to popular rail operator Renfe, train tickets are only $9 from Santiago de Compostela to neighboring Pontevedra, another under-hyped gem worth checking out that’s known for its vibrant, car-free city center.

Tambo: Combarro’s Secret Island

Remember earlier when I said Combarro doesn’t have Spain’s most vibrant beaches?

Well, let’s just say that was a bit of a play on words…

One of Spain’s best-kept secrets lies about 3 miles offshore from Combarro. There’s an easy-to-book ferry with round-trip fares under $20.

Dates are very limited for spring, but summer is when this island almost loses its ‘secret’ status with an influx of locals flocking to Adreira Beach.

This island was blurred on Google Maps. It was kept hush-hush as under military jurisdiction, but it’s now open to the public for the ultimate escape from what you might think is Spain’s unavoidable beach crowds.

While Tambo’s 2 worthwhile beaches here are quaint, the atmosphere tis nothing to the level of Barcelona and Spain’s world-renowned islands, such as Mallorca.

The island is no one-trick pony either as a get-in, get-out day trip after working on your tan.

Naturally, there’s no visiting Ambergris Caye without hitting up San Pedro, the largest coastal town. It’s known for its vibrant streets, with colorful buildings splashed in street art, beachfront vendors selling fresh fruit and local snacks, and… hem, some golf-chart chaos.

If you’ve been to Isla Mujeres in Mexico, you know the drill.

Ambergis Caye isn’t exactly known for its plethora of ancient ruins, unlike mainland Belize, but it does have a charming San Pedro Roman Catholic Church—Caribbean-simple, but historic—and traditional bars on piers, like Papala Bar & Grill, where you can literally have drinks over the water

However, the island’s main appeal is the stunning nature, particularly around the Hol Chan Marine Reserve: there are numerous diving spots around the park, but for a better chance of catching sight of those sea turtles, eagle rays, and colorful fish, head straight for Coral Reef Zone A.

Over in the Shark Ray Alley, the most adventurous among us can swim with nurse sharks and stingrays in shallow, crystalline water. It’s one of the most touristy spots on the island, but if you’re extremely passionate about marine life, it’s a must-see.

Stunning Beaches Galore

Gorgeous as Hol Chan may be, it doesn’t exactly have beaches in the traditional sense of the word. For the Belize-typical white sands and palm trees, you’ll want to take the winding coastal road that leads to Secret Beach.

Not exactly secret, with all the floating bars nearby, but it still feels like a breath of fresh air compared to the Main Beach in Cancun, or any of your average Mexican Caribbean resort strip. Again, Belize is visited by roughly half-a-million people every year.

For even quieter shores, North Ambergris Caye, near the aptly-named Tranquility Bay, has a string of natural, postcard-ready beaches, and fewer swimmers, whereas Bacalar Chico, in the north, can only be described as remote and wild.

Zero crowds, raw nature, and turquoise seas. It’s also located right beside the namesake Bacalar Chico National Park, famous for its mangroves, reefs, and big-toothed crocs. Don’t worry, though: the beaches are safe for swimming.

Ambergris Caye is not exactly the cheapest spot to visit in Belize, particularly compared to Caye Caulker, and Placencia Peninsula, which is not an island, proper, but an island-like peninsula on the mainland.

Why Visit Belize This Season

On top of that, Ambergris Caye is a low-risk destination for international tourists. Crime on the island is limited, and most visitors report feeling safe during their vacation.

It’s a bit out of the way, given the fact it doesn’t host nonstop flights, and if you’re heading there, you’ll likely have to touch down first in Belize City (BZE), then take a short domestic ‘hopper’ flight to Ambergris Caye.

Additionally, English is widely spoken on the island (Belize is an English-speaking country, after all), tourist zones are well-equipped with restaurants, bars, and modern amenities, and dollars are accepted in most venues, making Ambergris Caye a highly-convenient Caribbean escape.

After a disappointing 2025, with an unexpected drop in tourism levels, the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe has high hopes for 2026, and it’s counting on Americans (and Canadians) to give its tourism sector a much-needed boost.

As reported by Yves Jacquent, a local tourism official heading the prestigious Fort Fleur d’Épée au Gosier Hotel, visitor numbers are picking up pace again following a lackluster early winter.

Though it’s not on the average American traveler’s radar as far as Caribbean destinations go, Guadeloupe has plenty to offer both adventurers and beach lovers alike. Oh, did we mention the non-existent crowds?

Guadeloupe Is Unlike Any Caribbean Island You’ve Experienced Before

If you’re tired of the old all-inclusive model and you’re keen on something a little more authentic to make your sunny getaway worthwhile, you’ve come to the right place.

For starters, Guadeloupe is not your usual tropical island. Don’t expect to hear street vendors shouting at you in Spanish, nor empanadas being sold at street corner panaderías: this is a French island.

As in, it is every bit as part of France as Paris is. Locals speak French (as well as their own version of Creole), hold French passports, the euro is the currency in circulation, and it’s the French tricolor that flies above historic forts and Government buildings.

It’s no wonder it’s one of the safest Caribbean destinations out there.

However, Guadeloupe is not your usual French territory, either: needless to say, it feels considerably more tropical and wild than the European mainland that administers it.

Volcanos & Lush Jungles To The South…

The archipelago is dominated by La Grande Soufrière, a towering volcano that can be hiked for epic views of the surrounding islands. It’s also the highest peak in the Lesser Antilles, and one of several volcanic summits to be conquered around Guadeloupe.

Trails here can be tricky to follow, with the jungle reclaiming parts of the route, and off-route detours, so we strongly advise booking a guided hike if you’re planning on going into nature.

We’re with the relaxation team, though: instead of hours-long, challenging climbs, you can find us at Bains Jaunes, the thermal pools right on the slopes of the volcano, with spring waters reaching temps of around 95°F, and on-site massages offered.

The volcano is at the heart of the Guadeloupe National Park, in the southern, westernmost tip of Guadeloupe.

You could spend weeks on end exploring the jungle here, and still not see all that it has to offer, but if we were to pick our top favorite spots, they would certainly feature Chutes du Carbet, a trio of cascading waterfalls surrounding by verdant scenery, Bains des Amours, the volcano-heated river pools, and Maison de la Forêt, perhaps the most popular tourist-friendly forest path in the archipelago.

…Sandy Beaches & Surfing Spots To The North

In the north of Basse-Terre, make sure you allow for plenty of time to unwind at Grande-Anse Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, with golden sands and calm, swimmable waters.

As you cross the manmade causeway that links Basse to Grande-Terre, the lush, mountainous landscapes start flattening out and giving way to sand dunes and postcard beaches lined with laid-back fishing villages.

A peaceful stretch of sand hugged by an azure sea, Plage de la Caravelle, near Sainte-Anne, sits among Guadeloupe’s most-frequented beach spots.

Over in Le Moule, on the wilder Atlantic side, epic waves and endless miles of golden dunes await surfers and watersports enthusiasts.

A Quaint Capital City Not To Be Skipped

The quaint guadeloupéenne capital, Point-à-Pitre is your go-to destination for experiencing local culture, and sampling ethnic food without having to drive several long hours to some remote coastal settlement for it.

Marché Central, the central market, is known for its myriad of spices and exotic fruit, and if you’re the souvenir kind, you can even find handicraft items being sold.

Place de la Victoire is the heart of the capital, and a lively central square flanked by landmark colonial buildings. Only a few steps away, Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul is a beautiful historic church presenting a bold-colored yellow-washed façade.

For a casual eatery with Creole classics, and that won’t burn a hole through your wallet—they use the euro here, remember?—make sure you add Le Kiosque à Manger to your Point-à-Pitre bucket list. Think delicious accras, grilled fish, and freshly-squeezed juice at modest prices.

Europe has a new ‘cool kid’ on the block, and it’s an offbeat island in the Eastern Mediterranean where it seems to be perpetually summer:

A small island-nation most Americans have only vaguely heard of, Cyprus has had a record-breaking 2025, with over 4.5 million arrivals recorded, the highest number of tourists since tracking began.

It doesn’t sound all too impressive if you think of other European countries’ figures, but this is a 900,000-strong community living on a remote island roughly the size of the U.S. state of Delaware.

So what’s the big draw here, and why is 2026 poised to become the Year of Cyprus?

Europe Or The Middle East? How About… Both?

First, take a look at any map of Europe.

You might struggle to spot Cyprus at first, especially if you’re not scanning far enough east of Greece. We’re talking so far east that, geographically, it actually sits in the Middle East rather than Europe.

Yep, although Cyprus is geopolitically European, and even a fully-fledged member of the European Union, it is firmly part of Asia: the nearest European mainland lies roughly 500 miles away, while Turkey is only about 43 miles off, and Lebanon and Israel are a mere 110–140 miles across the water.

Don’t worry, though: Cyprus tends to stay well out of most Middle Eastern tensions, but there are still a few important things you should know about this mysterious island.

• If you’re wondering why you’ve never once heard of a ‘Cypriot’ language, that’s because most Cypriots are ethnic Greeks who speak Greek
• The northern third of the island, however, has been occupied by Turkish forces since the 70s, and it has a Turkish majority—but more on that soon
• Cyprus uses the euro, like most EU members, and soon enough, it will ascend to the Schengen Area and officially abolish passport checks for travelers arriving from most European countries
• Due to its geographical location, it doesn’t exactly experience the changing of the seasons like your average European nation… let’s just say you’ll rarely need to retire your shorts here.

How Warm Is Cyprus?

Overall, Cyprus enjoys 300 days of sunshine on average every year, making it one of the sunniest, if not the sunniest part of Europe, on par with Andalusia in Spain and the Canary Islands:

Winter (December–February)

It sees mild highs of 61°F–64°F most days, with around 7 hours of daily sunshine. Evenings are a little cooler, with temps ranging from 46°F–50°F, but nothing a light jacket can’t handle.

Spring (March–May)

It starts to get progressively warmer, rising to an average 68°F in March, and reaching a summer-like 79°F in May. During this period, the island’s lowlands experience lows of 50°F–61°F.

Summer (June–August)

That’s when you probably don’t want to be in Cyprus. On the coast, thermometers easily hit the 99°F mark, and overnight, it’s usually as hot as 82°F. Good luck if your aircon isn’t working.

Autumn (September–November)

The scorching heat drops to a more-pleasant 70°F on average, with nighttime lows of 61°F–57°F, though the sea stays relatively warm for swimming, and there’s plenty of sunshine hours to be enjoyed.

Paphos Is The Cypriot Highlight For 2026

It will soon be spring, and as you might have guessed, it’s nearly time to jet off to Cyprus ahead of the summer crowds, and the unbearable heat that makes Southern Italy in July feel chilly in comparison—but where to go?

If we’re judging by the figures, Cyprus’ tour de force right now, and its main tourist destination is the resort town of Paphos, which sits on the unspoiled West Coast of the island.

It’s where tourism arrivals have grown the most, rising by over 30 percent last year, and where the Ministry of Tourism is pouring in the most investment for 2026.

Paphos is a laid-back beach hub located within short driving distance of the Blue Lagoon, a natural, shallow basin filled with the turquoise-most waters you’ve ever seen.

From Paphos, there are numerous other Cypriot wonders within easy access, like the Adonis Baths, a waterfall-powered natural pool tied to the myth of Adonis and Aphrodite’s Rock, where according to ancient legend, the Greek goddess was born.

Paphos itself is known for its affordable beachfront hotels, some of which start at only $50-a-night, and ancient appeal:

It’s the site of the Tombs of the Kings, a network of UNESCO-listed, Ancient Greek burial chambers featuring mosaics and rock-hewn chambers.

Paphos itself is served by Paphos International Airport (PFO), the second-best connected airport on the island after Larnaca (LCA), with 55 destinations with scheduled passenger service, mainly in the European region.

Where Else To Go In Cyprus?

Paphos may be the star of the show this year, but Cyprus has so much more to offer.

Naturally, the well-beloved stag do destination of Ayia Napa, in the Eastern Famagusta district, continues to draw in a healthy crowd, particularly Brits and Germans.

Some say it’s the ‘Cancun’ of Europe, and while it’s true the Mediterranean is maybe at its clearest here, and the white-sand beaches are almost Caribbean-like, we wouldn’t be the first queuing up to board an Ayia Napa-bound shuttle bus if partying and day-drinking isn’t your thing.

For a family-friendly experience, head either to Larnaca, an ancient port city known for its long sandy stretch, backed by a coastal fortress, or Limassol, Cyprus’ second-city and its ‘mini Dubai’: picture a string of cool skyscrapers, a palm tree-lined promenade, and a relaxed vibe.

If it’s cultural immersion you seek, there’s nowhere better to find that authentic Cypriot charm than in Omodos, a traditional village in the heart of Troodos Mountains: cobbled streets, centuries-old houses built with stone and mortar, and and rolling vineyards as far as the eyes can see.

The North.

There’s no discussing Cyprus without bringing up the sensitive topic of the North.

If you ever make it to Nicosia, the island’s inland capital, you’ll notice there is an unusual number of guards patrolling some of the Old Town streets, barbed-wire fences, and even barricaded alleys.

Don’t fret: life here goes on as usual, but you should know that, since the Turkish invasion of the 70s, the Cypriot capital has been physically split in two:

The southern side is administered by the Greek Cypriots, the northern half is under Turkish jurisdiction.

If you’ve ever been to Berlin in the 80s prior to the dismantling of the wall, you get the gist.

The main pedestrian thoroughfare in Nicosia, Ledra, starts in the southern part of the city and culminates in a literal border post. From that point onward, you’ll need your passport to cross into the Turkish-majority north—even if it looks like any other street!

Community tensions remain high, but the situation in Cyprus has been largely stabilized, and as long as you carry valid documentation, you’ll have no issues exploring Nicosia on foot, regardless of the side of the fence you find yourself in.

In the south, you’ll find Greek tavernas dishing out souvlaki, feta cheese, and other typically Greek delicacies, Orthodox churches and Byzantine icons. In the north, it’s all about döner kebabs, towering minarets and their resounding calls-to-prayer, and Ottoman-era karavansarai.

A Country Within A Country

Poignant as it is to observe at times, nothing screams Cyprus quite like this fascinating dichotomy and state of limbo: too Western to be considered East, too Eastern to be regarded as truly Western.

The so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a country recognized only by Turkey, operates as a completely differnet state.

The currency in use is the Turkish lira, local authorities are elected independently by a largely-Turkish electorate, and of course, they’ve claimed Northern Nicosia is the capital.

Northern Nicosia is already quite the introduction to Northern Cyprus, but trust us when we say, there are many more incredible spots to discover up here once you’ve crossed that buffer zone in Ledra:

• Girne (also known by its Greek name Kyrenia): a picturesque harbor town complete with a castle and a lively marina, a short half-hour drive from North Nicosia
• Bellapais: a ruined Gothic monastery perched on a hill with stunning views over the Mediterranean that found itself on the wrong side of the border upon the division of the island
• St. Hilarion Castle: a mountaintop crusader fortress that’s partly ruined, though staircases, sole-standing arched windows, and bailey walls survived
• Karpaz: the ‘finger that stretches out’, and northernmost peninsula in Cyprus, popular for its golden-sand beaches and quaint resort towns
• Famagusta: a walled old city built around an impressive Othello Castle, a Venetian fortress linked to the Shakespearean play, and the ruins of Salamis, an ancient Greco-Roman city

Recently, Northern Cypriot authorities reopened the ‘ghost town’ of Varosha, abandoned since the invasion, for the first time in 50 years.

Previously a militarized zone, it is now being redeveloped to the tune of $10 billion, and soon enough, Northern Cyprus will have an Ayia Napa to call its own, or at least that’s the plan.

Cyprus In Schengen In 2026

Those are all reasons enough for 2026 to be the Year of Cyprus, but there’s so much more in store: the small country’s got the wheel right now with its six-month stint as the rotating Presidency of the European Union, and it’s surely pushing its own agenda.

Other than leveling up as a key Mediterranean player, Cyprus is gunning to go full Schengen by year’s end, which means ditching those border hassles for EU travelers and locking in tighter Euro integration, fingers crossed.

As far as reunifying the island goes, we’re talking years, maybe decades from a done deal, but hey, at least the presidency’s got folks talking again.
